Couture on a budget

If you are on a linden budget, you don’t always have to purchase gowns that are labeled *cocktail” or “evening” gowns instead with a little imagination and the right accessories you can turn a simple dress into a dramatic statement couture piece.

Combining black and white colors always makes a strong style statement. I suspect that this dress was intended as a sundress, but I couldn’t resist playing with the theatrical drama of adding a cocktail hat and evening gloves.

Styling Tip

I have a passion for cocktail hats and I’ve often found it problematic to manage both hair and hats fitting correctly. This styling tip comes from Reghan Straaf, the designer of a wonderful range of hats. Her shop is called “Hatpins”

” A common problem with hats is that hair goes right through them. This can be fixed without making the hat into a great big monstrous thing. Instead, make a copy of your hair, and edit it. Check the ‘Edit Linked Parts’ square in the build menu and select the chunk of hair that’s sticking through, and either resize it or move it – or even put a clear alpha texture on it if it won’t be missed. Whenever you edit anything, be sure to make a backup copy of it, just in case!”
